As leading manufacturers of aluminum EMT for the electrical industry for more than 35 years, American Conduit produces tubing that is UL listed, installs faster, and is substantially lighter and less expensive than steel EMT.

Aluminum EMT Manufacturers

American Conduit is a product brand of Hydro, the world’s largest supplier of aluminum extrusions. We manufacture a comprehensive range of aluminum electrical metallic tubing in diameters from ½-inch to 4-inches and rigid aluminum conduit in diameters from ½-inch to 6-inches, both in a wide range of lengths.

We have nearly 1 million pounds of material in-stock and ready to ship to customers from coast to coast via our nationwide distribution network.

Why Choose Aluminum EMT?

EMT is connected using clamp-type fittings that slide onto the tubing and are secured with a set-screw.  It is popular in commercial and industrial applications because it is lighter and thinner than rigid metal conduit and is relatively easy to bend and cut. It can also be installed outdoors, as long as all fittings, supports and fasteners are made of corrosion-resistant materials.

Aluminum is lighter than steel and iron, and some alloys are stronger than some steel alloys. But aluminum has unique properties that are unmatched by steel and other materials:

  1. Cost savings: Aluminum EMT is less expensive than its galvanized steel counterpart primarily due to the weight of the material and the ease of installation. This enables you to save thousands of dollars on a typical job.
  2. Strength and weight: Aluminum has an extremely high tensile strength. It is about one-third the weight of steel but similar in strength.  The light weight makes it less expensive to ship, and it requires less manpower to maneuver and install. A standard 10-foot length of 4-inch rigid steel conduit, for example, weighs about 98 pounds and requires two people to carry and place it. The same length of aluminum conduit weighs only 34 pounds and can be handled by one person.
  3. Rust and corrosion: Unlike steel, which must be galvanized with a protective zinc coating to prevent rusting, aluminum is naturally rust and corrosion resistant without additional treatment. It will not rust or discolor, even after extended outdoor exposure. It is an excellent solution in applications where steel tubing is not suitable because of large amounts of water or chemicals, such as in food processing plants.
  4. Non-sparking: Unlike steel, aluminum EMT conduit is non-sparking. This reduces the risk of explosion in volatile environments.
  5. Thermal conductivity: At low temperatures, aluminum alloys get stronger without losing quality and excel in cold weather applications. The metal also conducts heat well and will stay cool to the touch (a safety advantage).
  6. Recyclable: Aluminum is the ultimate green material. It can be recycled over and over again without losing any of its superb characteristics.
